Jinta Hirayama was an innovative pyrotechnician and founder of the Hirayama Fireworks Company, which was founded in Yokohama in 1877. Before Hirayama, Japanese fireworks were mostly in muted orange tones. Hirayama brought a new dimension into play by creating strong colors such as red, blue, green and violet through chemical experiments. These made it possible to create more complex and artistically sophisticated designs. Hirayama was particularly famous for his form fireworks, which drew figures, faces or even characters in the sky.
