Carl Hasenpflug was a German artist of the Romantic period and is considered one of the most important architectural painters of the 19th century. His preferred motifs often included Gothic structures, primarily church buildings, such as Magdeburg Cathedral in Winter and View of Halberstadt Cathedral. In his later works, he moved away from realistic depictions and developed an increasingly romanticized style. Although his art was recognized during his lifetime, his work was only later acknowledged as a significant contribution to German architectural painting.
