The artist group Brücke was founded in 1905 in Dresden and is considered one of the most important pioneers of German Expressionism. The founding members, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, and Fritz Bleyl, broke away from academic conventions and sought a radical renewal of art, focusing on emotional expression in their works. In 1913, the group was dissolved by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, following personal differences between him and the remaining members. However, its influence on the art world endured, and its works continue to shape the image of German Expressionism to this day.
